Exercise plays an extremely vital role in the overall physical health and fitness of the body. There have been various aspects related to exercising ranging from its causes to its effects. However, this paper is entirely to discuss and establish key concepts on this subject. The main objective is to explain the causes of exercising and its effects to an individual. In addition, it will elaborate on various exercising methods that are commonly in use by a majority of the people.

First, exercising has been considered one of the principle methods of maintaining human health. In fact, health centers concerned with Disease Control and Prevention (DCP) recommends that all adults take exercising. It also suggests that these adults take 150 minutes exercising every week. Considerably, it is evident that others regard exercising as a means of losing weight. This is because; exercise improves health through shedding of fats. It is evident that majority among the teenagers take exercising because of body shaping. In relation to this, they acquire certain muscle tone that distinguishes them from others.

Exercising has various advantages to the heart. Significantly, it eliminates the accumulation of cholesterol thus maintaining efficient HDL cholesterol levels. When an individual exercises his or her muscles, he also exercises his heart. This is through strength involving aerobic exercise. In addition, inflammation of the in the arteries witnessed in adults can be stopped by exercise. Therefore, majority of people take exercise to reduce chances of acquiring these conditions. These are considerable aspects in minimizing heart disease (Garett and Kirkendall, 2000, pg. 401).

Moreover, chronic diseases can be submerged through adequate exercise. This is another cause that people consider taking exercise. Health experts have recommended that exercise helps to improve insulin production and use. In addition, research has indicated that exercise substantially reduces problems associated with type 2 diabetes. Because of this, a large number of people are taking exercising to solve or evade this problem.

Apart from all the causes, exercising plays a significant role in the psychological aspect. It has been elaborated through research that exercise has effects anxiety and depression. This is because ones an individual exercises his body produces the chemicals “feel-good” referred to as endorphins. These chemicals naturally boost the treatment of depression and anxiety. Individuals who are under depression are advised from health experts to undertake exercising activities. Otherwise, depression will lead to increased blood pressure in the person (Garett and Kirkendall, 2000, pg. 117.

However, there have been identified various effects of exercising. Exercising has been linked to addiction. This is when exercise takes an individual`s life. This is a common disorder widely known as anorexia athletic. It is also referred to as obligatory exercise. There have been constructed Exercise Addiction Centers (EATC) that offer recovery process. Addiction is common especially to those individuals who have assimilated exercise as part of their daily activities. There are various signs and symptoms that indicate exercise addiction. They include; inability to concentrate in other activities, and open thoughts on exercise, social life is affected, and education activities are interfered. It plays a crucial role in poor self-esteem, decreased concentration, fatigue, minimal athletic performance, soreness and stiffness, and muscle wasting. Researchers have also found an effect of decreased oxygen uptake and adrenal exhaustion from the individuals.

Physical effects are common in individuals who take exercising. This is regular to this exercise addicted. The physical effects are mainly increased body injury and exercise related injuries. In addition, regular exercise strengthens the muscles and bones but over exercising leads to stress fractures. Considerably, in women exercise causes a condition called osteoporosis. The effects of exercise on the physical state of an individual include torn muscles, and joint damage. Moreover, it leads to loss of muscle mass (Garett and Kirkendall, 2000, pg. 163).

Heart damage is an effect of long term endurance exercising. Researchers have found out that over exercising may lead to detrimental effect to the heart. The research indicated scarring of the heart and its muscles. This can lead to heart failure or abnormal heart functioning. This is due to the strenuous exercising that individuals undergo daily. Therefore, it is advisable for light exercise especially the adult. Failure to this will lead to total heart damage. Other physical effects of exercising include reduced bone density, missed periods among women, and eating disorders.

Social and psychological exercising effects are evident to this activity. Exercise consumes a lot of time. Thereby, it isolates an individual from his group, family, friends, school, and other life activities. In addition, it brings about conflicts in families and upset. Exercise addiction leads to cognitive distortion among individuals. The cognitive distortions that have been identified include; white and black thinking, discounting, and over generalization. Moreover, selective abstraction, arbitrary reference, superstitious thinking, discounting, magnification, and personalization are common. Exercise addiction consequently results to emotional distress if accompanied negative image or limited self-esteem (Williams & James, 2001, pg. 75).

Co-occurring disorders are common in individuals who undergo exercise addiction. These are accompanied with poor eating habits including anorexia nervosa and increase in bulimia nervosa. Anorexia refers to a type of eating disorder resulting to self-starvation and excessive weight loss. Co-occurring disorders in exercising individuals can lead to irregular heartbeat, kidney failure, and liver damage. In addition, it is results to muscle wasting, dehydration, kidney stones, malnutrition, and constipation. Considerably, bulimia is an eating condition that engrosses a cycle of purging articulated with binging. Therefore, bulimia has potent effects that include; erosion of enamel, loss of muscle mass, and electrolyte imbalance. It is evident that heart failure and peptic ulcers are common in this condition (Ehrman, 2010, pg. 146).

In conclusion, causes of exercising range from physical satisfaction to health and relate to each other consequently. However, the most significant way to approach exercising is to ensure body fitness and avoid exercise related conditions and diseases. This is through emphasizing effective exercise practices. Therefore, exercise can only considered efficient if it limits its negative effects.
